If you have not had to interview in a while it can be a daunting and anxious event. We have put together some top tips to help you prepare for your next interview.
1. Be prepared, do your research, prepare your work examples on main competencies. Things like teamwork, communication, prioritisation are all hot topics. It’s not all about your technical experience. Also, doesn’t hurt to research your interviewers background.
2. Be early – it’s the cardinal rule of interviews is to be on time. Leaves a very good first impression.
3. Dress to impress – do your research on the company and likely dress code. Be smart, sit up straight and give good eye contact.
4. Remember you are interviewing them as well to see if you want the job so prepare your questions in advance.
5. Be open with your answers, but don’t attack your previous employers, it doesn’t give the interviewer a positive impression of how you deal with difficult situations.
6. Take in notes, it doesn’t hurt to have some notes with you, an interview is not a test it’s a meeting of both parties to gauge fit for the role.
7. Don’t worry about silences if you need time to think about an answer to a question or ask to come back to it later.
8. Give clear answers to the questions, give real examples so they know you how you have dealt with situations in the past.
